The Ilex range is limited with us primarily to the varieties of Ilex crenata. This Ilex art is considered an alternative to boxwood and is very cut tolerated. The many varieties that differ in their growth habit, color and strength of growth, are suitable for different requirements.

Some are good for hedge trimming or for the area planted, while others are used more for topiary for figures, geometric shapes, or for growing large Bonsai.
